Helping the people of Cité Soleil with sustainable, community-driven development
We are excited to announce the opening of the Helping Haiti Weber Laboratory! The lab, housed inside the Helping Haiti Clinic, will provide our clinic staff access to a variety of blood & urine tests. Staffed by our new team member Johnny, a licensed medical laboratory technician, the lab will increase the range of service we are able to provide to the community.
We are very thankful to have received 124,748 Aeroplan Miles since joining the Aeroplan donation program in 2016. These points will be put towards supporting the cost of bringing supplies and equipment to Haiti. In 2018 we are hoping to raise another 100,000 points!

Our director Rob is prep’n for a Christmas party. Street children from many different areas of Port-au-Prince come together to celebrate Christmas together. Helping Haiti is very happy to one of the supporters for this beautiful event. We’re also very proud of Santa’s helper for coordinating something so special!
Today we celebrate this beautiful community garden, the huge progress with only 2 months of growth and the endless benefits these, near 100 moringa trees will provide the people of Cite Soleil! Many thanks to Chriddy, German Rotary, Chris Robinson, Sakala and our community in Up Boston.

With donated Shoppers Optimum Points we have purchased an automated blood pressure cuff (top), and a “touchless” thermometer (bottom). They are now a part of the Helping Haiti Medical Clinic’s triage area (middle).In January 2016 Helping Haiti partnered with Shoppers Drug Mart to enable Canadians to donate their Optimum points to Helping Haiti. Since then we have received many donations – ranging from 2 points to 60,000 points. Including Shoppers Drug Mart’s initial donation of 198,000 (a value of $350), we have received a total of 508,139 Points (as of January 3rd, 2017). This has worked out to almost $1000 for us to spend on medical and first aid supplies at Shoppers.
Update: As of January 1, 2018, Shoppers Drug Mart customers will no longer have the option to donate their loyalty points to charity.
2016 was a strong year for Helping Haiti. Mario, our head nurse at the Helping Haiti Medical Clinic in Cite Soleil, Haiti, lead our team through seeing 1,848 patients (469 of them were children), who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford health care or medication for their injuries and illnesses.
Last year we also partnered with Kindness In Action, which brought a dental team to our clinic for a week. They helped over 300 people with their dental needs. Extracting, filling, cleaning, educating and relieving a tremendous amount of pain.
2016 also saw Hurricane Matthew devastate communities across Haiti. Our clinic was open to the public the evening Matthew arrived in Cite Soleil to act as a safe shelter. Following the worst of the storm and as soon as our nurses were physically able to get to the clinic (of course, they and their families faced this crisis also) it was opened to treat the many sicknesses caused by the flooding and lack of sanitation facilities.
2017 will be another big year! We will continue to work towards an expanded Clinic program and the development of the Helping Haiti Community Centre. Please join us in raising a glass for work well done!

Help our team in Cite Soleil support the local population as they work towards recovering from the devastating Hurricane Matthew. Cite Soleil is located at sea level and suffered damage from Matthew’s heavy winds, rains and storm surge. The population will shoulder a tremendous amount of sickness due to flooding and the lack of proper sanitation. The founder of Helping Haiti, Tammy Aristilde, was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal on June 23rd in Ottawa by Governor General David Johnston.
Created by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Meritorious Service Decorations recognize Canadians for exceptional deeds that bring honour to our country. The cross was originally created in 1984, for members of the military. In 1991, a medal was added to the military division, and both the cross and medal were introduced for civilians.
The Meritorious Service Medal is a circular silver medal bearing the Royal Crown: on one side of which appears the design of the Cross, and on the other appears the Royal Cypher, and within a double circle the inscription MERITORIOUS SERVICE MÉRITOIRE.
While there is no cash award to Meritorious Service Medal recipients, it does shine a light on charities that both raises awareness and confidence for donors.
Aristilde’s hope in being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal is for “increased awareness of the work being done on the ground with Helping Haiti and for others to get involved. There are strength in numbers and we are excited to increase our numbers, our reach and our impact.”
